I'm Kristin.  I am a wife, designer, Christian and for now a SAHM.  My husband and I are parents to three kids- Dylan Archer, Kyler Jude and Noelle Rose. Despite the name, this isn’t a mommy blog and you won’t find sponsored content here. My target audience is actually my children when they grow up if they wish to reflect on their childhood so everything I share has them at the forefront of my mind and secondly those who wish to follow along my journey. I created this space to document my family's adventures and lessons I've learned along the way.  The Mom Jungle is a modern interpretation of both the family newsletter and scrapbook.

I call this The Mom Jungle because motherhood is fun and messy, filled with laughter and sometimes heartache… it truly is a jungle out there!

Starting Solid

Starting Solid

During my son's first six months, I breastfeed him exclusively.  On his half birthday I decided to try some rice cereal as that's what is often recommended.

Here is Dylan trying solids for the first time. :)

Since I breastfeed, I opted to mix my milk and rice cereal together.  This proved to be very tedious pumping for an hour a day to get enough milk for his cereal.  Eventually I did try it with both formula and water, but once Dylan tasted real food, he would not eat rice cereal anymore.  Not that I blame him... it looks and smells so gross!  I still breastfeed him and have started introducing vegetables and fruits to his diet.

One website I've been loving is "Momtastic's Wholesome Baby Food."  I find their guidelines and recipes convenient as it's broken down by age group.  I also like their 4-day wait rule after introducing a new food to help pinpoint possible allergies/ sensitivities.

PRODUCTS WE LIKE

1.   PHIL & TEDS | POPPY HIGH CHAIR™

We love this high chair because not only is it super cute (it totally has this mid-century modern 'Egg Chair' vibe), but it's comfortable, adjustable and converts to a kids chair! The one draw back is the straps, but we're used to it now and it no longer poses a problem.

2.   TOMMEE TIPPEE | TABLEWARE SET™

We like how these two bowls and lid stack together with a snap-on spoon.  It's microwave and dishwasher safe and works with our eating 'colour scheme.'  Yes, I am always a designer at heart!

3.   SUMMER INFANT | BIPPITY

I don't know why it took me so long to discover the magic that is a silicone bib.  Not only is it wipeable, but it has a little tray so it catches the dribble.  Before I discovered this bib, this kid had more wardrobe changes in a day than Beyoné!

4.   ICE CUBE TRAYS

Originally I bought those fancy baby food trays. Unfortunately I couldn't get the frozen food cubes out.  I've switched to a good 'ole fashioned ice cube tray + Ziploc bag system.  Just make sure to date the bag and you're good to go!

5.   "START FRESH" | BY TYLER FLORENCE

I love this book... just read it.  Some of the recipes look so delicious that I want to try them!

6.   MIXIE | FORMULA MIXING BABY BOTTLE 8oz

This isn't exactly pertaining to solids, but for on-the-go formula this bottle is the Holy Grail.  You can prepare it ahead of time, but mix it right before you give it to your baby so it will always be fresh and sterile.

7.   BOON | SQUIRT SILICON BABY FOOD DISPENSING SPOON

Again this a great way to give your baby homemade baby food on-the-go.  Simply squeeze the handle a little and dinner is served!  It does have a leak-proof cap so it really is ultra portable.
