I'm Kristin.  I am a wife, designer, Christian and for now a SAHM.  My husband and I are parents to three kids- Dylan Archer, Kyler Jude and Noelle Rose. Despite the name, this isn’t a mommy blog and you won’t find sponsored content here. My target audience is actually my children when they grow up if they wish to reflect on their childhood so everything I share has them at the forefront of my mind and secondly those who wish to follow along my journey. I created this space to document my family's adventures and lessons I've learned along the way.  The Mom Jungle is a modern interpretation of both the family newsletter and scrapbook.

I call this The Mom Jungle because motherhood is fun and messy, filled with laughter and sometimes heartache… it truly is a jungle out there!

Home Tour: Daughter's Nursery

Home Tour: Daughter's Nursery

Today we saw a glorious glimpse of spring.  It is definitely just a glimpse, and I’ve seen my friends share a meme online referring to this part of winter as “fool’s spring,” as sadly we know the above-freezing temperatures, chirping birds and sunny skies will once again be silenced by howling winds, ice and snow.

As much as I dislike some aspects of winter [mainly layering multiple children in copious amounts of clothing which makes leaving the house feel like a major undertaking], I love the clean and crisp air and how pretty it is.  With that said, I am looking forward to spring, upcoming family members’ birthdays- including Dylan’s sixth birthday [future party post], and getting outdoors more.

We took advantage of this warmer day and went for a walk to the market.  While muddy and a little icy, it felt so invigorating to feel the sun’s rays.  I also took advantage of the unusually sunny light and snapped some shots of my daughter’s nursery.  Of all the rooms in my house, I think this showcases my emerging design skills the best... granted, I have so much to learn!  This was truly a labour of love planning my dream nursery for my dreamy Noellie-Noo.

As this used to be my son Kyler’s nursery, my husband had already installed the wainscoting I requested.  I love it now just as much as I did then, so I decided to keep the room white [surprise, surprise haha] and transform it from a charming prince’s nursery to one fit for a princess!  My inspiration came from these “Ice Cream Tiny Hand Drawn Dots” from The Lovely Wall, mixed with metallic gold starbursts from the same company.  Next, I added a few* rainbow accents [H&M], some vintage elements [tea cup and mirror I painted] and all in all just a fun room that I hope can grow with Noelle for some time.  I made the typography prints on Photoshop and framed them [IKEA]. The bookshelves are actually spice racks from IKEA and the ballerina decal is also from The Lovely Wall. The few splurges are the milkmaid doll from Anthropologie, the book set from Rifle Paper & Co [purchased days after she was born #girlmom] and the illustration of my daughter made from a friend and local artist, Talia Stone. I also repurposed a few things such as the mint + gold polkadot pillows which were on my bed when Justin and I were newlyweds. The furniture is still the same as what we had with our first baby. I couldn’t justify buying multiple cribs so long as the older child could transition to a bed. One of the most special items is the beautiful crib blanket knit by my mother-in-law. The white bunnies kind of also look like clouds which pairs perfectly with the rainbows haha!

The one weird thing about this room was that the closet had no door. As little ones can sometimes get their hands pinched in the hinges, I opted for a sheer sage curtain with a rod I spray painted copper.  While it doesn’t completely hide the mess, it adds an airy, ethereal feel to the room [and those curtains only cost S$6 from my local mall #whoelovesabargain]! Noelle loves walking to her toy area and playing in secret.  With two rambunctious older brothers, she certainly craves solitude sometimes. Every princess needs her castle.

Every day as I enter into this rainbow room, my happy heart swells with gratitude for my rainbow baby daughter who sleeps in here.

* In my Home Tour: The Boys Room post, I offered a few practical pointers when it comes to designing kids room. One additional piece of advice I have is to be selective when it comes to purchasing from a collection. While it’s true that everything matches if you buy the whole set, it can look a little cheesy and cookie-cutterish. I made a point to only buy three items; the rainbow pillow, handle knob for her bows, and bookend on the shelf. I then found other items that complemented those pieces to try to give it a unique and curated look. FYI, I just saw that they are selling an adorable matching rainbow rug, but I’ve reminded myself that it’s better to branch out [I am eying the round jute one].
