I'm Kristin.  I am a wife, designer, Christian and for now a SAHM.  My husband and I are parents to three kids- Dylan Archer, Kyler Jude and Noelle Rose. Despite the name, this isn’t a mommy blog and you won’t find sponsored content here. My target audience is actually my children when they grow up if they wish to reflect on their childhood so everything I share has them at the forefront of my mind and secondly those who wish to follow along my journey. I created this space to document my family's adventures and lessons I've learned along the way.  The Mom Jungle is a modern interpretation of both the family newsletter and scrapbook.

I call this The Mom Jungle because motherhood is fun and messy, filled with laughter and sometimes heartache… it truly is a jungle out there!

Twenty-Twenty Lessons

Twenty-Twenty Lessons

They say highlight is 20/20. I don’t think anyone rang in the new decade anticipating this inescapably feeling of “WTF?!” [pardon my French].  2020 will forever be a meme of a dumpster fire burned in our subconscious. Yet despite everything, this year has been a gift to me as well.  Late last year, I wrote a post called “Rebuild.” 2019 was by far the most difficult year of my life that had left me physically and mentally shattered.  In the same breath, that pain birthed a renewed strength, resilience and resolve I didn’t know I had.  I often have a word or phrase for each year and this year’s theme was rebuild.  Little did I know that many of our plans would be sidelined by a novel virus and at one point I wandered if this year’s focus would be sidelined too; however, upon reflection, I realize I have had a year of tremendous growth and recovery, deconstruction and reconstruction.

One idea I’ve had is to list 20 things 2020 has taught me. I’d love to read your twenty-twenty lessons!  Without further ado and no particular order here is my list:

  1. I can keep houseplants alive and all—around have become more outdoorsy and am glad I invested in a good pair of Hunter Boots.

  2. Technlogy is a game changer in a pandemic.

  3. I can home school my kids BUT both the kids and I prefer to leave It to the pros.

  4. Teachers should make more money for what they all do.

  5. Front-line, health care and essential workers are the real MVP’s and keep us all going.

  6. Toilet paper is apparently the number one commodity in a pandemic.

  7. Even when I have nowhere to go, sometimes putting on makeup and getting dressed up is nice.

  8. Leggings are life.

  9. Racism rightfully got the spotlight that was long overdue and I made a consciences effort to educate myself, acknowledge my privilege and be a true ally.

  10. Conviction has to be coupled with compassion. Everyone will respond to this pandemic differently. While it’s disappointing that not everyone can/will comply in order to curb the spread, I focus on my part understanding that this is very difficult for everyone.

  11. Even the most powerful and influential people can fall.

  12. I can bake a mean sourdough loaf.

  13. Apparently everyone can bake a mean loaf of sourdough.

  14. Soudough takes a lot of time. Who else has a sad looking starter in the back of their fridge?

  15. Kindness and generosity are not cancelled.

  16. All of my kids [including a TODDLER] can wear a face mask telling me that most of us can.

  17. Kids are freak’n resilient and roll with the punches. My three have taught me to remain present.

  18. Creativity is even more important for me when I can’t see family and friends.

  19. I have inspiring family and friends. Shout-out to those who have launched businesses/ side hustles and projects. Also shout-out to those stretched to the max and in full survival mode.

  20. I prefer home workouts.
